| The Andean Experience Company is committed in conserving the natural and cultural resources of a destination by developing and promoting sustainable travel within the region. By developing Titilaka, The Andean Experience Co. has restored a pristine site, by introducing preservation as a way of living among the local citizens. We have revaluated their culture and promoted economic development. Titilaka is the product of remodeling an old building which stood where Titilaka is located now, on the tip of the same peninsula on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Currently the hotel is the only contemporary construction in the area, built using only local materials and fixing up a unique site which has transformed the destination into a prime tourism attraction. Furthermore, Titilaka is reviving local traditions, festivities and culture by sponsoring local festivals and directly helping to organize the local activities. Titilaka encourages guests to interact with neighboring communities and promotes the preservation of local building materials and traditional building styles. |

Ecology
Wildlife protection:
Local communities have traditionally maintained a balance of protection and consumption of the local reeds and birds in the area. During the past years, neighboring communities have been extracting these species. By creating awareness, and offering excursions which involve visiting the reeds and bird watching, we have persuaded our local neighbors to instead protect these natural resources. We have also started a project to reforest the local community by reintroducing local trees and shrubs.
Non contaminating:
Titilaka’s staff is constantly processing waste, cleaning surrounding beaches, collecting garbage, and recycling. The carbon footprint has been minimized by using clean energy sources, such as natural gas and hydroelectric power, and also by purchasing most food and ingredients locally, thus avoiding transportation side effects.
Social Assistance
- Titilaka was a development in coordination with the local community.
- 95% of Titilaka’s staff are members of the surrounding community or of the region.
- We provide necessary medical assistance to the members of the nearby communities.
- We stress the importance of preservation for the continuance and sustained economic and social development throughout the region.
- Titilaka encourages the production of local arts and crafts to be sold at Titilaka’s boutique.
The Wish List
Based on specific requirements, The Andean Experience Company has developed a “wish list” for the nearby community. Guests at Titilaka can donate items or money in order to be used in developing the ‘’wish list’’, and also interact with members of the community throughout the donation process. |
